Italy
Marostica 7 km (41/2 mi) west of Bassano del Grappa, 26 km (16 mi) northeast of Vicenza.
The first and most evident feature of Marostica is the ancient stone wall snaking up to enclose the castello Superiore with its commanding view over the surrounding countryside. But the most famous sight in town is Piazza Castello, the main square, paved in checkerboard fashion.
Where to stay Due Mori (our special recommendation). Modern, stylish rooms with wooden floors and soft-beige marble bathrooms offer classy Italian elegance in the heart of this medieval town center. Some rooms have magical views of the olive-studded terraces behind the town, the upper castle and the ancient city wall. There’s a chic, minimalist restaurant downstairs. Due Mori makes an excellent base for visiting the surrounding hill and towns of the northern Veneto.
